Collective review.... Philosophy, acne treatment and moisturisers!

In the past month or so my skin has broken out horribly, and it's been a nightmare trying to tame it! It's down to hormonal acne, so skincare generally doesn't have an effect on these blemishes and they will eventually go away by themselves. As for my general skin (apart from the hideous spots) it's doing really well at the moment and I put it down to a few products......

Philosophy 'purity made simple' - one step facial cleanser 90ml
Philosophy 'microdelivery exfoliating wash' 118.3ml
Lacura 'Anti Wrinkle Q10 Night Cream 50ml
Palmer's Cocoa butter formula lip butter 10g
Sudocrem skin care cream 30g

purity made simple - one step facial cleanser

Initial thoughts.....
When I first tried this product, I wanted it to live up to the hype (I've seen it mentioned in the beauty blogging world for about 2 years now) and all I had heard were positives. Now when something has such a 'hype' I think it's easy to expect miracles.... but the thing with this cleanser is that it's just exactly what it says... it's simple [but certainly effective] in what it sets out to do. I have been using it for a few weeks now and it removes all of my make up (including dark eye make up) and leaves the skin feeling soft and comforted. The smell is quite weird... something to get used to, but the thing is with this product now is that I actually look forward to using it because I love how it makes my skin feel! Afterwards I use a toner (usually a tea tree one for the blemishes, and then follow with a moisturiser). Really great product to try out if you want something simple and effective. You can also use this cleanser on its own, it doesn't even need a toner to be honest!

microdelivery exfoliating wash

e this in the mornings to wake my skin and to get rid of anything grim from the nights sleep. It sort of lathers up if you use enough product, but it's a bit of a waste as it's really only an exfoliator. The beads in this are quite small but quite rough so be gentle. It leaves the skin SO soft! And sometimes I follow with the purity cleanser afterwards to soothe the skin after the abrasive mature of the scrub! Overall, great products that work well together! For general good looking skin, these are great for maintaining healthy skin!

Lacura Anti-wrinkle Q10 Night Cream

This little find from Aldi is AMAZING! I've not been using it recently actually because it managed to get lost at the bottom of a very large bag of cosmetics [I have way too much stuff]. However because my skin has been playing up, I'm reaching for this again. So my skin is soft from the Purity cleanser... and then when I put this on it's so soft! The cream is quite thick but not greasy at all. It settles in to the skin nicely and feels slightly tingly when applied. I can honestly say that my face looks 'tighter' and more 'radiant' when I've used this.. it sounds ridiculous I know... and I'm only 22 so don't really need any of those benefits, but I have also read in the blogging community that people have seen it reduce acne and scarring, so I'm willing to try anything really! My skin really feels great in the morning, not too dry & not too oily, great!! It's only £3.99 from Aldi, and their stuff is really recommended by a lot of people in the beauty world so it's worth a try :)

Palmer's cocoa butter formula lip butter 'dark chocolate and peppermint'

So not really skincare.... but I love it so it's going in the review! :D I bought this on a 3 for 2 offer a month or two ago... only really got it to try something new from the Palmer's  range and to make the most of the offer! Sooooo glad I tried it! It's my favourite lip balm of all time I think! I have tried the stick version and I hate it, it's really dry and makes my lips look almost white because it sticks to the dryness! This one however, it comes out quite glossy (but not at all sticky!) and almost glides on. The smell is amazing, like After Eights :-D. I would tend to use it on its own in the house, and when I'm going out put a tiny amount on before some lipstick (it would be great if they came out with a tinted version, I hate bare lips!) overall an amazing product! I've just ordered a Dark Chocolate and Cherry one from eBay and I'm hoping that it's as good as this one!

Sudocrem.....

This one will probably come up time and time again... it really helps to reduce the size of my blemishes throughout the night [I have cystic acne, so the blemishes are extremely swollen at times...] it has antibacterial properties which I think penetrate the blemish and help to fight all the nasty stuff in there through the night. I'm not sure it's so good on smaller redder acne, as it can be quite greasy, but it does make a good overall face cream [my friend uses it every night as an all over cream and she rarely has problems while using it!] overall great stuff, and the little tube is about £1.99 and lasts forever [a small amount really goes a long way!]

A small collective review on some of the products that have been helping my skin recently.... thanks for reading and do leave a comment & any requests for reviews

  1. Hiya Lucy, its missinbloom visiting from Instagram...I am a massive fan of Sudocrem, can't stop using the stuff, it's brilliant. I know how you feel with the cystic acne, been there myself and it isn't nice...I eventually had two courses of Roaccuntane to get rid of mine (in my mid thirties!!!!) and now I'm pregnant and I've got incredible dry skin for the first time ever...!!! Oh the joys of being a woman...xxx

  2. Awh thanks for the comment! Yeah cystic acne is terrible isn't it! Mine was horrendous when I was about 12-16 but its calmed down since taking roaccutane (such a harsh drug isn't it!) and I've had dry skin ever since (mainly on my scalp) if you see my recent picture on IG of me in sunglasses, you can see some of the acne on my chin. It swelled up so much and I've been so self conscious for weeks now! Glad it's finally clearing! Whereabouts is your dry skin? Anywhere in particular? Xx
